The First Yuelu Academic Salon on China-Africa Economic and Trade Cooperation in 2025 — "The Internationalization of the RMB in Africa"

On April 2, 2025, the first 2025 Yuelu Academic Salon on China-Africa Economic and Trade Cooperation was successfully held at the Africa Research Institute. The theme of the event was "The Internationalization of the RMB in Africa". Industry experts from the China-Africa Development Fund, the Hunan Branch of the People's Bank of China, and the Hunan Branch of the Bank of China, along with faculty members and students of the Africa Research Institute, gathered to conduct in-depth discussions on topics such as the challenges and strategies for promoting the RMB in Africa, expanding localized application scenarios, and improving financial infrastructure.

Experts and scholars unanimously agreed that the internationalization of the RMB is positioned as a "long-term systematic project". It needs to be aligned with the needs of Africa's economic transformation and gradually expand the influence of the RMB through trade integration, financial innovation, and regional cooperation. Looking ahead, with the deepening of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), the application of digital RMB technology, and the advancement of green finance cooperation, the RMB is expected to form a "trade-investment-reserves" virtuous cycle in Africa, becoming one of the key regional currencies.
