Recently, the China Scholarship Council (CSC) announced the approval results for the "2025 Country and Regional Studies Talent Support Program". Two projects submitted by our university, namely the "Innovative Talent Training Program for China-Africa Economic and Trade Cooperation" and the "Future Leading Legal Talent Support Program for China-Italy Collaboration", have been successfully approved for funding.
Led by the Graduate School, these projects aim to promote multi-level, cross-disciplinary, and wide-ranging cooperation in country and regional studies, guide faculty and students to contribute to the high-quality development of the Belt and Road Initiative, and enhance the cultivation of talents in country and regional studies.
Innovative Talent Training Program for China-Africa Economic and Trade Cooperation
This project, jointly applied by the Institute of African Studies, School of Economics and Trade, School of Public Administration, and School of Finance and Statistics, leverages two national-level platforms hosted by Hunan Province—the China-Africa Economic and Trade Expo and the China-Africa Economic and Trade Cooperation Pilot Zone. Building on existing collaborations with world-renowned African research institutions such as the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), University of Dar es Salaam (a leading African university), and the African Policy Research Institute, as well as partnerships with the Ministry of Education of Madagascar, the program adopts a "government-academia-industry-research-application" approach. It aims to cultivate a group of high-level talents with international perspectives, in-depth knowledge of African affairs, and the ability to conduct in-depth research on China-Africa economic and trade cooperation, engage in international collaboration, and contribute to major international platforms.
Future Leading Legal Talent Support Program for China-Italy Collaboration
This project, applied by the Law School, focuses on cutting-edge fields such as foreign-related law, economic and trade cooperation, technology and environmental law, and economic law and corporate governance. Through international collaborations with institutions such as Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (Greece), University of Sheffield (UK), and Sapienza University of Rome (Italy), the program integrates superior disciplines and research resources from overseas universities. It seeks to develop high-level, professional, and interdisciplinary legal talents with international vision and a global perspective, while strengthening key academic and platform collaborations in critical areas.
The "Country and Regional Studies Talent Support Program" was established by the China Scholarship Council (CSC) to support national priorities such as opening-up, the Belt and Road Initiative, and the building of a community with a shared future for mankind. The program aims to accelerate the cultivation and reserve of talents in country and regional studies who possess international perspectives, understand international rules, and are capable of participating in global affairs. It adopts a "project-based selection" model, where projects are first approved and then candidates are selected.
For the approved projects, the implementation period runs from 2025 to 2027, during which our university will have the autonomy to dispatch 19 faculty and students to partner institutions for academic exchanges. The exchange categories include:
