China–Africa Economic and Trade Studies (CAETS) is a bilingual (Chinese and English) academic journal sponsored by Hunan University. The journal focuses on China–Africa economic and trade cooperation and African economic development, with a particular emphasis on area and country studies. It welcomes interdisciplinary research across economics, management, law, and related fields.
Guided by the strategic priorities of China–Africa cooperation,CAETS seeks to bridge rigorous academic research and policy–relevant insights. It aims to contribute to the development of an independent knowledge system for economic and trade cooperation among countries of the Global South, while providing scholarly support for closer China–Africa economic and trade ties and Africa’s sustainable development.
CAETS warmly welcomes submissions from scholars worldwide.
I. Key Research Themes
CAETS welcomes theoretical, empirical, policy–oriented, and comparative studies on a wide range of topics, including China–Africa trade and investment, international development cooperation, regional economic integration and the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), the digital economy and green transition, financial cooperation, infrastructure and connectivity, China–Africa legal frameworks and business environments, corporate internationalization and risk governance, as well as country–specific economic and development issues.
We especially welcome submissions that use original data, apply rigorous research methods, draw on fieldwork, or offer perspectives grounded in African contexts.
II. Journal Columns
Regular columns include African area and country studies, digital economy and green development, featuring China–Africa digital cooperation, energy transition and green development, country–specific market developments, industry and sector tracking, the investment and trade environment, and related areas. Additional columns cover thematic commentaries, academic frontiers, literature reviews and case studies.
III. How to Submit and Other Issues
Researchers from all disciplinary backgrounds are welcome to submit manuscripts and share insights on China–Africa economic and trade issues.

3.Submissions must be original, unpublished works. Simultaneous submission to multiple journals is not permitted.
4.Both Chinese–language and English–language manuscripts are accepted. All submissions should comply with the journal’s academic standards and submission requirements.
5.Manuscripts should be submitted in editable word–processor format (.docx). A PDF version may be attached for reference.
Ⅳ. Formatting Guidelines
Please follow the requirements below (the submission template is available in the attachment):
Manuscripts should generally be 12,000–15,000 Chinese characters for Chinese–language research articles, and 8000–10,000 words for English–language research articles. Lengths for review articles, case studies and other manuscript types may be adjusted as appropriate.
All manuscripts should present clear research questions, solid analytical methods, well–supported arguments and original academic contributions, and comply with academic and publication ethics.
1. Manuscript Structure
(1)Separate title page: proposed target column, Chinese and English article titles, full names, institutional affiliations, academic titles, email addresses and contact details for all authors; corresponding author name and mailing address; names and grant numbers of funded research projects.
(2)Main manuscript body: Chinese–English titles, abstracts, keywords, main text, footnotes and references.
(3)To facilitate double–anonymized peer review, no author–identifiable information should be included in the main text or file attributes.
Chinese submissions should include a Chinese abstract (~300 characters), 3–5 Chinese keywords plus corresponding English title, abstract and keywords. For English–language manuscripts, specific requirements concerning the Chinese abstract are specified in the submission template.
2. Format of Main Text
Manuscripts should follow the submission template regarding heading hierarchy, figures, tables, footnotes and references.
3. Figures & Tables
Figures and tables shall be numbered sequentially as they appear in the text, with complete captions, data sources and necessary notes. All visuals must be legible for peer–review purposes. After acceptance, authors shall provide editable high–resolution source files as requested by the editorial office.
4. Footnotes & References
Footnotes and references must be accurate and complete. Bibliographic entries follow Information and documentation–Rules for bibliographic references and citations to information resources (GB/T 7714–2025) and citations are presented under the author–year system. Detailed citation formats and the arrangement of Chinese and English references are subject to the journal’s official manuscript template.
5. Academic Integrity
Authors are responsible for the authenticity, originality and methodological soundness of their work. Where relevant, authors shall disclose research data sources, field–work interviews, conflicts of interest and AI–tool usage in accordance with international academic norms and journal requirements.
